Bank of America

Global Technology Summer Analyst

June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

My team was very supportive and helpful.

What I wish was different

The intern program lacked any out of or in work activities. I would prefer a job that has more social opportunities.

Advice

The internship is what you make of it, and you should like business.

Corporate Banking Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Great internship- lots of access to people throughout the Bank. I learned a lot and couldn’t have been happier with the experience.

What I wish was different

Advice

Always try and get ahead so you can free yourself up to help others. I think some of my best moments were when I was able to pick up on a project when no one else had the time to do so.

Wealth Management Summer Analyst

June - August 2018 • Garden City, NY

What I liked

The learning curriculum and summer-long collaborative project from corporate, ability to network, and work-life balance.

What I wish was different

Sometimes a lot of downtime, your experience can/may depend on what team you're placed on in the office.

Advice

It is what you make it. They give you a good platform, but it's up to you to make the most of your experience - you will get out of it what you put into it.

Global Banking & Markets Analyst Intern

May - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The culture was one of bringing each other up and always learning. They also have great diversity initiatives that allowed all of the company to grow and learn from each other.

What I wish was different

I think that the work-life balance could have been communicated better. We ended up working more hours than we thought we would from the letter or from other employees thoughts.

Advice

Show your intention to learn from your managers and direct employees and then make sure you understand what you were told. Also, continue asking questions so you are constantly learning. Finally, try to do extra projects on the side to prove you are willing to go an extra mile for the team.

Intern

June - August 2018 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

The culture of the bank compared to others was very welcoming.

What I wish was different

The program I was working in had a lot of routine. I was in the Financial Management Analyst Program, the bank's premier corporate finance program and one of its most respected internships. The program was rewarding but just a little routine for my personal liking.

Advice

Network as much as you can, as you move through the program you'll find out more and more what things you like. Find people in the bank who are doing those things because they are out there and they can help you!

Analyst

June - August 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

The people and company culture were amazing. The work was interesting, and my coworkers were very helpful and interested in sharing all of the opportunities that exist at such a large bank.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to understand a little better what the work was going to be going into the summer, because I felt unprepared at points during the beginning.

Advice

Meet as many people as you can inside the office and at social gatherings because part of understanding if you want to work somewhere is not just enjoying the work but enjoying the people who you'll be spending 9+ hours a day with.

Global Compliance Risk Intern

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

Do not stress too much if you are not completely familiar with the field before you start. A lot of the program is designed to introduce you to the industry as well as the bank's role within it. Just come in with an open mind ready to absorb.

Wholesale Credit Summer Analyst

June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Loved the people, the programming, the dedication to my education, and the responsibilities I had been given.

What I wish was different

More structured, but it's hard to accomplish because their deal flow comes in waves.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions

Investment Banking Analyst Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The people were awesome - very friendly and willing to help you out. There were great events for the interns ("Speaker Series" talks from the CEO, COO, etc, box seats at Yankees games, and more). Work was fast-paced and I learned a TON in a very short period of time.

What I wish was different

The hours were very long, but that comes with the territory of investment banking. There is technically a 75-hour/week cap for the interns, but this is not enforced very well.

Advice

This was a sophomore internship program at a company that does not recruit directly from Williams, so I would recommend reaching out to Williams alums very early if you're thinking of applying. I used LinkedIn to find alums and then the alumni database to find their email addresses. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions!

Global Procurement Summer Analyst

June - August 2017 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I liked the fact that it was project-based, not just completing mundane tasks day to day. We felt like we were making an actual impact.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish had been different was the onboarding process - I wish they had distributed some sort of in-depth description of the Global Procurement department/job responsibilities before day 1.

Advice

Always accept every project given to you, always ask for more work, and always ask for feedback from your boss! Also, network with as many people as you can.

Financial Analyst

June - August 2017 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I thoroughly enjoyed the networking opportunities, the exposure to the company and its high level executives, the difficulty and complexity of the work, and the commitment of the program to my personal and professional development outside of my role (i.e. case study competition and excel training sessions).

What I wish was different

While we did have a few socials and community service projects, I wish that there were more social intern bonding activities structured in the program.

Advice

I would advise a future BoA intern to keep an open mind. There are so many career paths that can be taken and explore within this company so keep your mind open and network with everyone.
