I loved getting to learn more about auditing and getting experience. I worked with incredible people and was given the opportunity to grow in the career I want to have one day.
What I wish was different
My internship was virtual due to COVID-19. I wish it could have been in-person but it still was an incredible experience.
Advice
It is super important to get an internship. It really helps you decide if that career is good for you and also helps you learn hands on what you will be doing.

Audit Intern
June - August 2019 • Red Bank, NJ
What I liked
The people, everyone is really nice and wants to help you learn. People from all levels from staff to partner were happy to interact and help.
What I wish was different
Lots of down time. Would have been nice to have a steadier workload but then again it is an accounting in the summer so it tends to not be so busy. Other projects outside of audit work were nice, but didn't start until later on in the internship.
Advice
Get the experience and talk with people. It is always helpful to grow your professional network. Do not be afraid to ask questions if you do not know something.

Audit Intern
May - August 2019 • East Brunswick, NJ
What I liked
I liked having the experience to be able to do an accounting internship before I head into the Big 4 this upcoming summer. Getting exposure to being at the client and seeing a 401k audit happen to start to finish was something that I loved about my internship. 401k or ERISA audits are a lot smaller and so for me who didn't take Tax Audit or Advanced yet was able to get the exposure I was looking for.
What I wish was different
I would have liked to have gone to more clients but the way that ERISA season is set up, most of the on-site client meetings were happening in September and October which was after my internship ended. But my Partner that I was reporting to make her best effort to get to 2 clients during my 13-week internship.
Advice
Take notes and it is ok to not know what is going on. Only during the 4th week was when things were starting to click for me and then I started to get the hang of it.

Accounting Intern
February 2018 • Princeton, NJ
What I liked
The culture, the people, proximity to campus, flexibility (outside of tax season).
What I wish was different
WithumSmith+Brown in Princeton has a large focus on tax and their tax department. The only thing I wish was that I got some experience in other fields of accounting. (Audit, GAAP compliance, etc.)
Advice
Make as many personal connections as you can. It makes you feel more appreciated as an intern and expands your professional network.
