Client Program Specialist

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP has an immediate need to engage a client program specialist. This position is ideally suited for an ambitious college graduate who may be interested in attending law school as the role combines multiple responsibilities. Candidates will assist in all aspects of the legal defense of a wide-variety of matters, which may include direct communication with plaintiffs, fact investigations, responding to demand letters, and preparing for settlement conferences, arbitrations, and court appearances. Most uniquely, candidates will also be expected to appear in court and argue small claims cases and appear as a witness on behalf of DWT clients. We are seeking candidates who will be excited about the unique opportunity to obtain hands-on experience in the courtroom and are otherwise eager to learn, to be trained on the requirements of this role, and who can commit to a minimum of two years in this role.

Candidates must be willing to travel to and appear in court as frequently as necessary. This role will require occasional travel throughout the United States. Beyond travel for specific proceedings and assignments, the work will be fully remote, although in-office work is also possible if desired and if located near an existing DWT office.

Compensation is on an hourly basis. We anticipate that the role will require close to full-time hours, 37.5 hours per week, but we are interested in candidates who can be flexible about their hours of work. The amount of work may vary week to week and a minimum number of hours of work per week is not guaranteed. Upon the completion of the initial six-month contract, successful candidates will be considered for a possibility of extension.

Responsibilities:
  • To assist with fact investigations and the legal defense of various demands, arbitrations, and litigations.
  • To work collaboratively as part of a team of legal professionals to support various matters as assigned by DWT and on behalf of DWT clients.
  • To appear in small claims courts as assigned by DWT and on behalf of DWT’s clients. Travel to and appearance in small claims court throughout the United States will be required.

Requirements:
  • Minimum of one year of work experience, preferably within the legal industry is preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Ability to and interest in appearing in court to argue small claims cases.
  • Strong desire to learn the legal support skills necessary to perform the role.
  • Previous public speaking experience is preferred.
  • Ability and desire to travel as frequently as needed.
  • High level of attention to detail with a view to thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain exceptional professionalism at all times.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong dedication to timeliness and logistical requirements for all court appearances.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office computerized business applications (Word, Excel, Adobe, and Outlook) as well as legal research and document retention databases.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technology, software programs, and upgrades.
  • Ability and willingness to communicate and handle stressful situations in a professional, calm, courteous manner.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented service environment.
  • Availability and willingness to work overtime as needed or requested.

SALARY RANGE:
The hourly range for this position in CA, WA, and New York is $25 - $35 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
