A dynamic, high impact, globally-focused non-profit organization in Washington, DC is seeking a full-time Accountant to manage and maintain the organization’s finances. In addition to bringing a depth of knowledge of GAAP, the successful candidate will be proactive, innovative, efficient, and committed to the overall success of the organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and process payment requisitions from multiple sources and locations
  • Verify payment of invoices associated with accounts payable, and ensure payments charged to appropriate accounts
  • Code invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts, and close monthly books
  • Prepare journal entries and perform general cost accounting
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger for multiple accounts
  • Lead the preparation of monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements
  • Initiate domestic, international, ACH and other funds transfers supporting national and international partners and stakeholders
  • File required tax forms with federal, state, and local government entities, including 1099 NEC and others
  • Record and post all payroll and fringe related debits
  • Help coordinate and direct the annual audit and 990 filings
  • As appropriate, coordinate with software vendor to maintain accounting software system, and recommend updates to enhance the accounting software
  • Stay abreast of relevant developments in the accounting field, and recommend changes to the organization’s financial policies and procedures when the opportunity arises
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles, and to grasp the organization’s financial policies and procedures
  • Highly proficient with accounting software
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Conscientious, reliable, trustworthy, able to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Sage Intacct, or similar ERP software

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years in general accounting experience
