Staff Accountant / Auditor

STAFF ACCOUNTANT/AUDITOR
 
Description: A staff accountant will be involved with all stages of attestation engagements, including day-to-day responsibilities of planning, fieldwork and completion. A staff auditor will be involved with performance audits, examinations and agreed-upon procedure engagements. They will also apply their experience and knowledge of business processes by making suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures.

Staff Accountant/Auditor Job Purpose: This position is responsible for completing all parts of the engagement, including planning, testing and completion, and will support the supervisor/manager to proactively address engagement issues to ensure deadlines are met timely and any issues are anticipated and addressed in an appropriate and timely manner to ensure client satisfaction.

Staff Accountant/Auditor Job Duties:
  • Participate in on-the-job training to become familiar with audit engagements. Work as a “Team Member in Training” to obtain knowledge of audit processes/documentation methods while working to transition to an “Audit Team Member”.
  • Document engagements through developing workpapers in conformity with generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS) and generally accepted government auditing standards (GAGAS which are contained in the “Yellow Book”);
  • Draft and review examination and other attestation reports including developing findings and observations in accordance with the Yellow Book standards;
  • Ensure accuracy of all workpapers and ensure that they comply with the firm's quality control standards;
  • Ensure time and expenses are properly charged to the project while maintaining awareness of the budget;
  • Keep managers and staff up to date with the status of each engagement and make appropriate modifications to engagement plans as necessary;
  • Obtain a thorough understanding of GAAS and GAGAS and common audit procedures and techniques;
  • Research and analyze audit related issues;
  • Acquire a working knowledge of the client’s business;
  • Demonstrate professional relations with client personnel and firm associates;
  • Exhibit professional communication in both writing and speech; and
  • Use sound professional judgment, including exercising professional skepticism.
 
Skills/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field;
  • Must be working towards obtaining CPA or other appropriate professional certification;
  • Supervisory experience preferred;
  • Ability to travel (average 25%);
  • Understanding of GAAS;
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines and budget constraints;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
