The Opportunity
Abt Associates seeks bright, talented, and intellectually curious students to participate in our paid summer Abternship. As a Project Finance intern on the International Finance Team, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on finance experience on large, complex international development projects. Interns will learn from experts in their respective fields while experiencing events/programs that are useful in any professional setting. Our programs will consist of a robust and structured curriculum that encompasses professional development opportunities, networking events, and a mentorship program. Interns can be remote, hybrid, or in person and can be located anywhere in the United States.
The Summer Internship Program at Abt Associates is 10 weeks, beginning June 5, 2023, through August 11, 2023. Interns must be able to work full time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the program.
Core Responsibilities
- Support Abt International Finance team on USAID and other donor-funded projects and learn about applicable US Government rules and regulations.
- Learn about global projects leading Health Systems Strengthening initiatives, fighting against Malaria, other global challenges and learn how these programs are implemented and managed financially.
- Interact with colleagues located all around the world, and support in their day-to-day accounting, finance, and audit related issues.
- Use advance excel skills and Power BI tools to support with a process improvement and automatization of selected templates that will be used by financial professionals supporting Abt projects in the future.
Candidate must participate in scheduled program meetings associated with the Abternship.
What We Value
Department / Division Preferred Qualifications
- Candidate is currently enrolled in the last year of a graduate degree program with a potential interest in further employment with us.
- Ideal candidates will have academic or work experience in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Project Management with strong interest in Finance.
Program Minimum Qualifications
- In the last year of their graduate degree.
- Strong analytical skills and loves working with numbers
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Fluent in English, proficiency in other languages (French, Spanish) is a plus
- Is available to work full-time throughout the 10-week internship
- Is eligible to work in the United States
- Transitioning military are also encouraged to apply

Graduate Pay: $22.00 per Hour
