HUD is currently accepting applications for progressive thinkers who are looking for an opportunity to collaborate with new ideas and tools to support the housing programs HUD provides to the nation. Data Analytics and Policy Interns will assist in reviews, analysis, and discussion of policy issues in HUD with a team of innovative strategists within the Office of Public and Indian Housing / Real Estate Assessment Center / Office of Strategy and Innovation.
  
Responsibilities: As an intern, you will contribute to performing research on data storage, data usage, and legal issues that pertain to HUD policy. You will serve as a team member that works to support NSPIRE, Ilabs, and the Office of Strategy & Innovation. Those with an interest in learning how HUD policy is shaped and developed in the federal government are strongly encouraged to apply. The intern will gain analytical skills in legislative research and writing experience regarding inspection protocols for HUD-assisted housing.  Applies current trends, methods, best practices, and tools to capture relevant data on HUD historical and contemporary programs, and research trends that include evolving industry workflow, service, and assessment standards.  Contributes to reports of studies and analyses; identifies strengths, weaknesses, and patterns in major cross organizational programs; develops and documents results; and as assigned, presents, and justifies recommendations to HUD staff and management. As assigned, acquires data from existing internal and/or external sources. May recommend alternative data collection approaches, systems, and strategies to optimize data capture, statistical efficiency and data quality and reporting. As assigned, monitors, maintains, and utilizes data dictionaries to conduct statistical analysis of datasets and develops recommendations based on findings. Performs standard or routine data extraction, normalization, and visualization to capture, report, and analyze data on HUD assessment and data collection goals.
 
The internship will be part-time (10-15 hours per week) during the Spring 2023 semester (January to May; start and end date flexible). 
 
Qualifications: Excellent oral, written, visual, and organizational communication skills with strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively. Eagerness to explore state and local government-associated laws, rules, and regulations. Strong research and documentation skills.
