IRI’s Business Development team has grown quickly over the last five years from a staff of one to eight (and still expanding) today. We provide strategic and technical assistance to teams working on proposals and other business development opportunities. Our team works with almost every division at IRI, providing a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the various types of work for international development organizations.
IRI seeks to create an engaging, purposeful, and structured virtual internship program that educates and promotes students’ interest in democracy and governance while building tangible skills for their future endeavors. IRI is creating student and employee partnerships that facilitate growth and development of IRI’s future leadership. The intern will support the work of IRI’s Business Development Team.
This position is virtual and will start on September 12, 2022, for no more than fourteen (14) weeks and may not be extended. This is a paid position, at $16.10 per hour.

Position Requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English;
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office;
- Detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills;
- Flexibility to changing situations and priorities.
Scope of Work:
- Monitor Devex and competitor hiring websites for information on upcoming competitive bids;
- Solicitation tracking with BD team oversight;
- Create proposal sites for new bids;
- Support coordination of Go/No-Go and Kick-Off meetings as needed;
- Support coordination of quarterly check ins with divisions as needed;
- Attend BD-related events and webinars and circulates notes/key takeaways to the team;
- Assist, as needed, with quality control and NOFO compliance for submission;
- Make note for reference of miscellaneous ideas, activity suggestions and approaches during design sessions;
- Take notes during donor feedback calls;
- Develop chart, table, text box and other creative alternatives that can be utilized to improve the readability and aesthetic of proposal and/or cost narratives;
- Coordinate updates to division org charts and identifies portfolios relevant for BD.
- Supports the business development process by serving as a coordinator between proposal teams and other Business Development team members to ensure deadlines are met and reporting to supervisor(s) any delays in the development of application volumes.
- Works closely with Business Development Associate/Sr. Associate and Specialists to manage internal tracking and proposal management processes:
- Updating proposal timelines and sending calendar invitations and review reminders;
- Uploading necessary templates and assisting with proposal site creation;
- Creating agendas for internal meetings and planning;
- Maintaining and updating IRI’s proposal tracker with spending and revenue figures; including fact checking and communicating with other divisions as needed;
- Creates proposal billing codes and assists with projecting and tracking proposal expenses while ensuring relevant documents are updated.
- Records donor feedback and incorporates aggregated feedback on cost related matters as part of cost strategy consultations.
- Generates Business Development spending reports to assist IRI in its monitoring of overhead funds spent on proposals.

- Improve knowledge and understanding of funding mechanisms, IRI policies, and donor regulations, including USAID, DOS, NED
- Develop understanding of the budgeting cycle and its role within the business development process
