Intern - Team America Rocketry Challenge

Opportunity:

Gain experience at the intersection of rockets and STEM education as an intern for the world’s largest model rocket contest and the aerospace industry’s signature STEM workforce development program, the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC). Designed to encourage middle and high school students to study math and science and pursue careers in aerospace, the Team America Rocketry Challenge has reached over 60,000 students since the first annual competition in 2003. Nearly 800 teams and 4,600 students will participate in the 2018 competition.

 

Nature and Scope of Work:

The intern will be responsible for supporting various elements of the rocket contest including public relations, social media, donor development, and analytics, culminating with the National Finals to take place in May. As time permits, the intern may support research and policy work, with a focus on STEM education and aerospace workforce issues.

 

This position reports to the TARC Manager.

 

Compensation is $250 a month to help cover transportation costs.

 

Typical duties include:

• Processing team registrations, answering questions from students/teams

• Supporting planning and execution of National Finals in May

• Tracking and assisting with sponsor development

• Managing social media channels

• Assisting with media tracking and media relations

• Drafting and editing memos, letters, and emails to teams

• Contributing to marketing strategy, plan implementation, and campaign analysis

• Investigating and helping to implement strategic partnerships

 

Job Requirements:

Must have excellent written and oral communication abilities, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.

Preferred: STEM interest/background; knowledge of social media, graphic design, video editing, or web development.

 

Hours and schedule:

Hours and schedule are flexible to accommodate the intern’s situation. Applications are processed on a rolling basis.
